Tina Habota

Dr Tina Habota is an experienced clinical psychologist who offers short- and long-term psychotherapy to individuals 16 years and over. Tina is internationally registered as a clinical psychologist in Australia and the UK. She completed her clinical training and PhD in psychology in Melbourne, Australia. Tina has a strong interest in research and has maintained an active research and academic role alongside her clinical work. Currently, in addition to clinical practice, Tina holds a full-time academic post as Research Fellow and Project Lead with the University of Aberdeen.

Tina has extensive experience working in a range of public and private mental health settings, including inpatient and outpatients. Most recently, Tina's clinical experience involved individual and/or group therapy for inpatients and outpatients with mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar; personality disorders; and people with a psychotic illness. Tina also has extensive training and experience with cognitive and academic assessments, personality assessments, and diagnostic assessments.

Throughout her clinical training and PhD, Tina has maintained an active academic role as sessional lecturer and tutor to undergraduate psychology courses at the Australian Catholic University. She also has a keen interest in supervision and is registered as a Board Approved Supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia. Prior to training as a clinical psychologist and academic, Tina worked for several years as a psychologist in a forensic setting.

Tina’s experience and psychological services:


Tina has training and experience in several core psychological modalities, including psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioural therapy, dialectical-behavioural therapy, and mindfulness. Irrespective of the theoretical framework used, therapeutic goals and needs are developed and worked on, collaboratively, in the therapy relationship. Therapy could be short-term and focused on symptom management, or long-term and focused on developing a deeper level of understanding of the self. Tina uses an integration of therapeutic models as a way of providing tailored intervention that is based on each person's individual needs and goals.


Tina has a specific interest in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which focuses on understanding how early life experiences have contributed to emotional and relational difficulties later in life. The psychoanalytic framework focuses on helping individuals gain a deeper insight of themselves, their symptoms and patterns of behaviour, and their relational problems. Concerns in these areas are often long-standing and complex, and understanding them is achieved through reflective thinking and talking. With this self-knowledge people can develop a stronger sense of wellbeing and ability to control their symptoms, and focus on making changes to relational and behavioural patterns that have hindered their lives.

Tina provides services to people with a wide range of difficulties, including (but not limited to):


  • problems managing mood, such as depression, anxiety, fears, phobias, and anger;
  • dealing with stressful and unpredictable life circumstances;
  • difficulties managing aspects of one's personality type/style;
  • interpersonal and relational problems;
  • adjustment difficulties; and
  • working through difficulties following traumatic experiences.
